Government Medical College, Surat organized a faculty development workshop
Medical teachers are the architects and builders of students’ behavior using a standard curriculum. They are also the curricular developers and transactors and thus have a pivotal role in shaping the future medicos.
Selecting the ‘right’ trainer may not be always possible but improving them by periodic training programme is feasible. An ‘effective’ teacher will be one who is ‘competent’ (has knowledge and skill) and is a ‘performer’ (can use knowledge and skill in a classroom) to accomplish ‘teacher goal’.
On 7th to 9th April, Medical Education Unit, GMC, Surat organized a second three day workshop of Faculty development. The college MEU has like-minded, willing, motivated and devoted teachers who facilitated 28 participants from preclinical , paraclinical and clinical departments. Sessions were excellent, the interaction & learning was great.
Participants were trained in framing objectives, selecting appropriate teaching learning methods and media, and proper evaluation methodologies through interactive sessions. They were also trained in educational sciences and technology with an aim of educating the educators …ultimately to develop the faculty.
MCI observer Dr. Pandya from Regional centre PSMC Karamsad appreciated the innovative sessions and efforts of speakers .He found an infectious enthusiasm in MEU as well as the participants. College MEU under the headship of supportive Dean Dr. Vajpeyee will organize such two workshops per year and will train all teaching staff and Senior Resident doctors.
